Out of the blue planet: islands seen from space

Onekotan Island, Russia

An island within an island was created after a big eruption around 9,000 years ago caused the peak of Onekotan’s volcano to collapse, forming a caldera that subsequently filled with water. The island inside the caldera is known as Krenitzyn Peak, which is the highest point on the island at around 4,300 feet.

Collection of beautiful images taken by astronauts and satellites from space of some of the most interesting islands on the planet. AWESOME!

Windows 7 still vulnerable to viruses

Anti-virus software vendor Sophos tested Windows 7’s built-in anti-virus capabilities by feeding a clean system 10 pieces of the newest malware. Eight out of the 10 samples ran successfully
Excerpt from Wired.com.

Why I have a feeling that this would be so obvious. That hardly seems to be a new lesson, since Microsoft never told anyone to stop running anti-virus in the first place. This report somehow provide a justification of something I already knew.

Keep running your anti-virus software as long as you're running Windows.

Now You Can Dislike Stuff on Facebook

Once you indicate your less than favorable reaction, a thumbs down icon will appear under the post that ostentatiously calls out your dislike, with your name attached, for your Facebook friends to see
Excerpt from Mashable.

The cons: You need to install a firefox plugin, which I assume that non-firefox user won't be able to do this, to perform the dislike. You also need the same plugin to see the thumb down of dislike.

Oh, is there any way to completely dislike the facebook? My only problem to Facebook is that the content fully centralized on person, not information. In a world where informations is the center of universe, Facebook is heading towards the opposite direction. Unless if Facebook believes that narcissism is the most valuable information to expose.

Twitter: blast those spam!

As Twitter grows and the number of tweets each day continues to astound us, we’ve noticed an increasing amount of clutter in the public timeline, especially with trending topics. Trends began as a useful way to find out what’s going on but has grown less interesting due to the noisiness of the conversation
Excerpt from Mashable.com.

You got that right. It's useless to find a recent update using trending topics when you always ended up fighting our way just to find a relevant topic. Twitter should learn from Google to manage the spam.

Google Chrome for Mac; my first impression

Fast! That's my first impression of Google Chrome for Mac. Though it's still in developer preview, I'm beginning to love this browser for its speed. Its clean look can be compared to Safari. However, I get lost several time when try to find a specific tab due to the lack of header on top.

New York bans texting while driving

New York has joined the ranks of states that ban texting while driving. The interesting part is that you won’t be pulled over for it but you will be fined up to $150 if you are caught texting when they pull you over for another violation
Excerpt from Berryreview.com.

The main problem, I think, is ignorance to safety driving. Fine is a temporary solution, because deep down inside we're the creature who tends to break the law. It's more to culture approach to find a long term solution.
